Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival Toronto is an exciting three-week cultural explosion of Caribbean music, cuisine, revelry as well as visual and performing arts. In its 44th year it has become a major international event and the largest cultural festival of its kind in North America. As Carnival is an international cultural phenomenon, the great metropolis of Toronto and its environs will come alive as the city explodes with the pulsating rhythms and melodies of Calypso, Soca, Reggae, Hip Hop, Chutney, Steel Pan and Brass Bands. This colourful exhibition and display of genius is truly a musical panorama that is certain to bring a pleasing smile to the ancestral titans of Pan and Calypso music.
Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival Toronto is an expression of Toronto's multicultural and multiracial society. An increasing number of attendees and participants come from the US and overseas. The events are planned months in advance. The costumes and mas band displays are elaborate and oh so delicately worn and designed for movement. Move they do, in a breath-taking spectrum of colours that is best reflected in the King and Queen Showcase on Parade Day. No Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival Toronto is complete without African Drumming along with the Arts and Crafts displays celebrating "Things Caribbean"!
In 2011, Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival Toronto season is destined to be six (6) weeks culminating in the pinnacle of Parade Day on the Lakeshore with a kaleidoscope of music, colourful costumes, theatrical mas band displays, steel bands beating intricate orchestrations coupled with mouth watering feasts of Caribbean cuisine and delicacies.
Commffest Global Community Film Festival continues to offer a unique platform for independent filmmakers, in today’s media-explosive world, to engage in a dialogue of social issues and cultural current affairs and relevant issues, and proves an opportunity for filmmakers to express themselves freely and connect more personally with audiences.
This collective mix of film, filmmakers and audiences creates a dynamic atmosphere to provoke thought and stimulate understanding, as well as the exploration of ideas, attitudes, and emotions that can foster change starting with communities in which we live. Filmmakers receive hotel discounts, restaurant gift certificates, gift packages, and invitations to all festivities including the Commffest gala. Exhibiting filmmakers will be profiled online and in the Commffest magazine. The year’s best films will be honored with a Making A Difference Award (MADA) for the best films tackling social and cultural issues.

For thrill-seekers, Canada's largest water park offers The Midnight Express. Barrel down high-speed drops and accelerate through dark tunnels and spiral around tight 360-degree turns at hurricane speed. Plunge from daylight and disappear into darkness on The Abyss, while on The Night Rider, plummet into darkness and zoom through high bank twists, freefall drops and back-to-back turns. Dolphin Bay welcomes The Big Tipper, where it's you against 800 gallons of water.
The daring will also find their thrills on two seven-story "speed slides," and a half-acre tidal wave pool, while the lower-key float slowly down the quarter-mile Lazy River. The Dolphin Bay playground is the best place to introduce younger children to the water and the whole family can enjoy batting cages, miniature golf and bumper boats. The park features 15 heated waterslides, two giant whirlpool hot tubs, and three heated children's waterslides.
One of the park's more popular attractions, Caribbean Cove, is a 6000 sq. ft swimming pool surrounded by landscaping and waterfalls. Sip your favourite drink, sway to island rhythms, play beach volleyball, relax and bask in the warm sun and let a gentle breeze caress you in this makeshift tropical paradise. Spend your day in high comfort by renting a Private Cabana for the day, which includes a shaded cabana, lounge chair, Muskoka chair, luncheon table and chairs, and food and beverage service for $50 plus taxes.
